The purpose of the scholarship is to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and helps to establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning.

IDRC Doctoral Research Awards

Managed by International Development Research Centre (IDRC)

IDRC offers these awards to Canadians, permanent residents of Canada and citizens of developing countries for pursuing their doctoral studies at a Canadian university. These awards support field research in one or more developing countries.

Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories Program

Managed by Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)

The Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories (VF) Program provides promising emerging scientists and engineers with the opportunity to work with research groups or leaders in Canadian government laboratories and research institutions. The value of the award is $49,513 per year which is renewable for up to two more years.

CIFAR Global Scholars

Managed by Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR)

The program is targeted to individuals who have completed their PhD within the three years before the starting date of an advertised Global Scholar position and have demonstrated outstanding scholarship and research potential.

IDRC Research Awards [Formerly IDRC Internship Awards]

IDRC offers these research awards annually to Canadians, permanent residents of Canada, and citizens of developing countries pursuing master’s or doctoral studies at a recognized university or having completed a master’s or doctoral program at a recognized university.

Industrial Postgraduate Scholarships Program

Managed by Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)

This scholarship value $15,000 per year for up to three years plus a minimum contribution from the sponsoring organization of $6,000 per year. Industrial Postgraduate Scholarships Program is one of the most popular scholarships in-between international students.

Industrial Research and Development Internship (IRDI) Program

Managed by Networks of Centres of Excellence of Canada

IRDI program provides financial aid for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows who may work at host organizations in private sector for research internships. The interns will work on research projects jointly developed by the private sector’s host organization and their academic supervisor.

Research Associate Program

The Bentley Cropping Systems Fellowship

IDRC offers this fellowship every second year in October to Canadians, permanent residents of Canada, and citizens of developing countries. You must be a graduate student with a university degree in agriculture, forestry, or biology, and wish to undertake applied, on-farm research with cooperating farmers in one or more developing countries.
