Indonesian Education Scholarship (BPI) for Master and Doctoral Programs, 2017

The Indonesian Government is offering Indonesian Education Scholarship (BPI) to pursue master and doctoral programs at Indonesian or overseas institutions.

This scholarship aims to support the supply of educated and qualified Indonesian human resources who also possess leadership quality and a strong vision as the future leader of Indonesia.

Scholarship Award: To support a smooth and successful educational attainment in master or doctoral programs in the target university, the Indonesian Education Scholarship recipients would be provided with funding which comprises of the following components.

University Fees:

  • Admission fees(at cost);
  • Tuition fees, including non-language matriculation (at cost);
  • Non-tuition fees, which can be used for financing books, thesis/dissertation, seminar, publications, graduation (package, annual, accumulative).

Supporting Fees:

  • Transportation fees from the region of origin to the target university and back (once for each trip, at cost),
  • Health insurance (package),
  • Visa (at cost),
  • Living allowance (package),
  • Family support (package),
  • Settlement allowance (package),
  • Incentive for the top university which fulfilled the requisites of LPDP,
  • Emergencies/force majeure agreed upon by LPDP.

Scholarship can be taken in Indonesian or overseas institutions.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarship:

The eligibility criteria for applicants of BPI master or doctoral programs is depicted on the following lists of general and specific requirements.

  • General requirements

Applicants of the master and doctoral programs scholarship are those who fulfilled the following specifications:

  • Indonesian citizen,
  • have graduated from the bachelor or master program of
  • overseas institutions for higher education that are registered in the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Republic of Indonesia,
  • Indonesian vocational institutions for higher education, or
  • institutions for tertiary-education in Indonesia that are accredited by the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education, or
  • Has the character of leadership, professionalism, nationalism, patriotism, integrity, have good self-confidence, perseverance, self-reliance, maturity in managing emotions, and adaptability;
  • Participate in social / science / innovation / creativity / culture activities;
  • are willing to sign letters of a declaration stating that the applicant
  • Willing to return to Indonesia after the completion of studies;
  • is not and will not be receiving a scholarship from other sources,
  • has never been / will not be involved in unlawful conducts,
  • has never been / will not be involved in acts of violation to academic code of ethics,
  • will always serve in the interest of Indonesian nation,
  • will always be loyal to the Republic of Indonesia,
  • can fulfill the scholarship requisites established by LPDP,
  • Deliver the valid data and documents, according to original documents and willing to accept the legal sanctions that applied if the document is invalid.
  • received letters of permission from the employers for the presently working candidates,
  • certificate of the good healthy condition and drug-free (for all applicants destinations within the country and abroad) and for the purpose of overseas also needed a TBC-free certificate issued by doctors from the Government Hospital;
  • received recommendations from a public figure for those who are currently unemployed,
  • have and choose disciplines that are listed as the targets of LPDP,
  • choose studies and institutions in concordance to requisites of LPDP,
  • Write an essay (500 to 700 words) with the theme: “My contribution For Indonesia: contribution has been, is and will I do for the community / organization / institution / profession in my community” and “Greatest Success in My Life”;
  • If there is falsification of data or documents, the applicants will be disqualified and are not eligible to register again in LPDP;
  • Submit Letter of Good Behavior / “Suat Keterangan Catatan Kepolisian” (SKCK) carried at the time of selection interviews;
  • Specific Requirements

Scholarship applicants for the master and doctoral programs are those who fulfil the following requirements.

  1. For master program scholarship applicants
  • Maximum age of applicants on December 31 in the year of registration is 35 (thirty-five) years,
  • Has completed studies in undergraduate programs / bachelor of applied and does not apply to those who have completed a master’s program both within and outside the country.
  • has received the Letter of Acceptance from the target university with unconditional status from university listed by LPDP
  • If you do not have Letter of Acceptance (unconditional) (a.3), you shall have the minimum cumulative grade point average (IPK) of 3.00 on a scale of 4.00, or its equivalence on other scales and have a non-expired official document (ets.org or ielts.org) to certify the English proficiency, or other languages as determined by LPDP:
  • for master studies in Indonesia, a minimum score of: TOEFL ITP® 500/iBT® 61/IELTS™ 6.0/TOEIC® 600;
  • for master studies abroad, a minimum score of TOEFL ITP® 550/iBT® 79/ IELTS™ 6.5/TOEIC® 750;
  • points a) and b) can be exempted for those who finished their previous higher education studies in United States of America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or Canada. A copy of graduation certificate is to be used as the substitute of TOEFL score, expiring 2 (two) years after the issue date of the certificate;
  • candidates who wish to take up master studies abroad in institutions using other foreign languages as their official academic language can submit instead the certification of that language proficiency (the list of minimum requirement for non-English foreign language proficiency is attached);
  • Schedule of study plan begins not less then six (6) months after the closing of registration in each selection period.
  • Able to complete the master’s study program within the established period, a maximum of 2 (two) years,
  • has the official document of TPA/GRE/GMAT/LSAT (if applicable),
  • has written the study plan according to the master program of target university.
  • For doctoral-program scholarship applicants
  • Maximum age of applicants on December 31 in the year of registration is 40 (forty) years old;
  • has finished the study in master program / master for applied science program;
  • has received the Letter of Acceptance from the target university with unconditional status from university listed by LPDP;
  • If you do not have Letter of Acceptance (unconditional) (b.3), you shall have has the minimum cumulative grade point average (IPK) of 3.25 on a scale of 4.00, or its equivalence on other scales and have a non-expired official document (ets.org or ielts.org) to certify the English proficiency, or other languages as determined by LPDP:
  • for doctoral studies in Indonesia, a minimum score of: TOEFL ITP® 500/iBT® 61/IELTS™ 6.0/TOEIC® 600;
  • or doctoral studies abroad, a minimum score of: TOEFL ITP® 550/iBT® 79/ IELTS™ 6.5/TOEIC® 750
  • points 1) and 2) can be exempted for those who finished their previous higher education studies in: United States of America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or Canada. A copy of graduation certificate is to be used as the substitute of TOEFL score, expiring 2 (two) years after the issue date of the certificate;
  • candidates who wish to take up doctoral studies abroad in institutions using other foreign languages as their official academic language can submit instead the certification of that language proficiency (the list of minimum requirement for non-English foreign language proficiency is attached);
  • Schedule of study plan begins not less than six (6) months after the closing of registration in each selection period.
  • Able to complete the doctoral study within the established period, a maximum of 4 (four) years;
  • has the official document of TPA/GRE/GMAT/LSAT (if applicable),
  • has written a summary of research proposal according to the doctoral studies in the target university.

Nationality: Indonesian citizens are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: For master program scholarship applicants Maximum age of applicants on December 31 in the year of registration is 35 (thirty five) years. For doctoral-program scholarship applicants Maximum age of applicants on December 31 in the year of registration is 40 (forty) years old.

English language Requirements: For master studies in Indonesia, a minimum score of: TOEFL ITP® 500/iBT® 61/IELTS™ 6.0/TOEIC® 600;

For master studies abroad, a minimum score of: TOEFL ITP® 550/iBT® 79/ IELTS™ 6.5/TOEIC® 750.

For doctoral studies in Indonesia, a minimum score of: TOEFL ITP® 500/iBT® 61/IELTS™ 6.0/TOEIC® 600;

For doctoral studies abroad, a minimum score of: TOEFL ITP® 550/iBT® 79/ IELTS™ 6.5/TOEIC® 750.

How to Apply: The mode of application is online. BPI Registration conducted online by filling out the registration form and upload all documents on the official website of LPDP.

Application Deadline: Application of BPI for Master and Doctoral Programs is open throughout the year, with 4 (four) times selection process in March, June, September, and December.
