The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is pleased to offer International Scholarship for PhD in Food Engineering and Biotechnology to study in Italy for 2017-2018 academic year. International students are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

The purpose of this International PhD programme is to train a new generation of globally renowned researchers to apply approaches of engineering and biotechnology to food processing by giving them the opportunities to transfer and exchange knowledge with national and international research centers and industries.

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano was founded in 1997. Our university has a strong international outlook, as testified by its multilingual courses (German, Italian, English and Ladin) and the high number of students and teaching staff from abroad.

Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue PhD programme.

Study Subject: The PhD covers the research areas of Food Processing as one of the focuses of the faculty. Engineering and Biotechnology are the high throughput approaches to food processing science.

Scholarship Award: For most of the PhDs, unibz funds scholarships of €17,000 per year (including tax). For research trips abroad, funding can increase up to 50%. Other research activities (conferences, research trips, Summer Schools, etc.) are funded through individually allocated travel bursaries.

Eligibility: In order to gain admission to a PhD programme at unibz, you need to take part in a public competition.

Anyone can apply to take part in the competition to study for a PhD here, regardless of age or citizenship; however, you will need to belong to these categories:

  • You need to have obtained a Master Degree (either a ‘laurea specialistica’ DM n. 509/1999 or a laurea magistrale DM n. 270/2004); or a Bachelor degree of the former Italian university framework (vecchio ordinamento); or an equivalent university qualification obtained from a foreign university;
  • You will need to have obtained one of the titles mentioned above by the 31st October of the same year. In that case, applicants will be allowed to take part in the selection subject to the condition that they submit their qualification by the deadline established for enrolment; otherwise their application will be rejected.

Nationality: International students are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: In order to be admitted to the PhD programme, you will need to have previously obtained 300 ECTS credits (i.e., Bachelor and Master) and to have relevant academic training, a relevant cultural background, or relevant professional experience related to the focus of the PhD programme.

English language Requirements: Applicants will have to certify their English proficiency at a B2 level and be deemed eligible during the public selection procedure.

How to Apply: It is possible to apply for the selection from the day the public call for competition is published.
In order to apply, you need to:

  • Register on application portal
  • Fill in the online application on the portal and upload all the documents listed in the text of the public call in digital format.

Warning: Applying online is the only way to take part in the competition. Applications that are incomplete, lacking the documents listed in the text of the public call, or received by e-mail will not be considered valid. All documents need to be uploaded on the portal, and not sent via e-mail.

Application Deadline: The official application period for the 2017/2018 academic year is until July 3, 2017.
