The Levi Strauss & Co. x Arts Thread Design Competition (the “Competition”) is designed to identify promising apparel design students to work as interns at LS&Co. during the summer of 2017.

The Competition is open to students who are enrolled in a fashion design program with an accredited college/university and are graduating between September 2017 and June 2018, and who are, eighteen (18) years of age or older as of the time of submission of his/her application and proficient in written and spoken English. Participants are eligible from any country except for citizens or residents of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria, as well as the disputed territory of Crimea (the Russian-annexed territory in Ukraine) and where prohibited by law. Employees of LS&Co. or Arts Thread, or any of their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, divisions, advertising and promotion agencies, individuals engaged in the development, production or distribution of materials for this Competition, and members of the immediate families (defined as including spouse, biological, adoptive or step-parents, children, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings and each of their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) or households (whether related or not) of any of the above are not eligible to participate in the Competition.

Competition Period

The opportunity to participate in the Competition begins on August 28, 2016 (the first date Applications may be submitted) and ends on November 5, 2016 (the last date Applications may be received). The Application period is followed by a period when Arts Thread reviews applications and forwards the top 50 applications to LS&Co. based on the quality of their design submissions as compared against the design brief provided by LS&Co. LS&Co. will ultimately select Competition winners to offer paid intern opportunities in the summer of 2017 at LS&Co.’s headquarters in San Francisco, California. Any internship agreement will be separately entered into between LS&Co. and each intern.

How to Submit an Application

Applications must be submitted to Arts Thread via the submission form contained on the website and conform to the requirements set forth therein. Once an applicant submits an application, he/she becomes a Participant. All Applications may be reviewed for compliance with these Official Rules; however, such review does not relieve Participant from responsibility for compliance with these Official Rules, and Participants will have sole liability for all third-party claims relating to or regarding the content of the Application. Participants and Applications that do not comply with these Official Rules or that otherwise contain prohibited or inappropriate content as determined by LS&Co. in its sole and absolute discretion may be disqualified at any time without notice.

Application Content Guidelines.

Applications must: 

  • Be in English;
  • Fulfil the requirements and guidance of the LS&Co. design brief which will be made available;
  • Be original and of Participant’s own creation; and
  • Not violate the intellectual property or proprietary rights of other parties.

Applications must not:

  • Discriminate against, disparage, or denigrate on the basis of race, ancestry, place of origin, color, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, record of offenses, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, language, or any other ground prohibited by applicable legislation;
  • Challenge, lobby for, or seek to change current laws, enact any new laws, or overthrow any government;
  • Be inconsistent with these Official Rules;
  • Suggest or encourage the taking up of arms against any person, government, or entity; and disparage or denigrate a product, service, person, company, or organization including, but not limited to, LS&Co. and Arts Thread.
