­Applications are invited for CTP PhD Studentship – The application of machine learning in agriculture: “Using machine learning to predict post-storage fruit quality with surface microbiomes, climatic and imaging data” to start before December 2018.

NIAB EMR, located in Kent, England, has a history dating back to 1913 when it was established by the fruit growing sector to address the many challenges faced by growers. Since its establishment, the team at East Malling has introduced wide-ranging advances to horticulture which have shaped the way produce is grown and supplied to the consumer.

We are looking for a highly skilled PhD student from either mathematics/statistics with strong interest in agriculture or biology with excellent skills in mathematics/statistics. Although the project research focuses on the application of machine learning, the post-holder is expected to be directly involved in practical experimental studies to obtain new data for modelling.
