The Department of Engineering and Safety (IIS) is offering PhD position in Virtual Reality and Computer Vision at UiT Norway’s Arctic University. The PhD candidate will work in close collaboration with the Automation team.

The purpose of the PhD. Research Fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a doctoral dissertation to be defended publically.

The University of Tromsø is the largest research and educational institution in northern Norway. The main focus of the University’s activities is on the Auroral light research, Space science, Fishery science, Biotechnology, Linguistics, Multicultural societies, Saami culture, Telemedicine, epidemiology and a wide spectrum of Arctic research projects.

Course Level: Position is available for pursuing PhD program.

Study Subject: Position is awarded in the fields of Virtual Reality and Computer Vision.

Scholarship Award: Remuneration for the position of PhD Candidate is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1017. A compulsory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for these fellowships

  • The successful applicant must fulfil the requirements for admission to the faculty’s PhD programme, cf. Regulation for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) at UiT– The Arctic University of Norway. In addition, he/she be able to document proficiency in English equivalent to Norwegian Higher Education Entrance Qualification, refer to the website about PhD regulations at UiT.
  • This position requires a Master’s degree in Electronics, or Computer Science, or similar.
  • The Master’s degree should be recognized as equivalent to a 2-year Norwegian Master’s degree.

Language skills:

  • Good communication skills in both written and spoken English
  • The applicant must write a one-page project description for the PhD project.

Emphasis will be given to grades in the master’s degree, the project description submitted by the candidate, relevant research experience, and personal suitability.

Nationality: Norwegian, as well as international applicants, are eligible to apply for these positions.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: The position requires a master’s degree in a relevant field, such as pedagogy, sociology, history, anthropology, religious studies, indigenous studies, human geography. Other social master’s degrees may also be relevant.

English language Requirements: Applicants must have very good knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, both spoken and written.

  • Author(s), the work’s title
  • For articles: the journal’s name and volume, the first and last page of the article, year of publication
  • For publications: publisher, printer, year of publication, number of pages
  • The works (published or unpublished) which the applicant wishes to be taken into consideration during the assessment process must be submitted
  • List of references with contact information.
  • All documentation that is to be evaluated must be certified and translated into English or a Scandinavian language.
