PhD Studentship for International Students at Bournemouth University in UK, 2017

For January 2017 intake, Bournemouth University is fully-funded PhD Studentship for international students. The studentship is awarded to work on the project research on ‘Metastable Cortical Dynamics Underlying Cognition’ within the Faculty of Science & Technology.

The aim of this project is to provide analysis and modelling tools which enable us to discern metastable dynamics in high cognitive areas. This is important for deciding among competing models, and would be a significant advance in theoretical neuroscience.

Bournemouth University is a public university in Bournemouth, Dorset, England, with its main campus situated in neighboring Poole. The university was founded in 1992 as one of the new universities, however, the origins of its predecessor date back to the early 1900s.

If English is not applicant’s first language, they will have to provide evidence that they have been assessed in all four components of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required standard for a degree course.

Course Level: Studentship is available for pursuing PhD programme within the Faculty of Science & Technology.

Study Subject: Studentship is awarded to work on the project titled, ‘Metastable Cortical Dynamics Underlying Cognition’.

Scholarship Award: A fully-funded studentship includes a maintenance grant of £14,000 per year to contribute towards living expenses during the course of your research, as well as a fee waiver for 36 months. Associated costs – such as for fieldwork and conference attendance – will also be met under the Studentship.

Eligibility:

  • Any doctoral candidate is free to apply for a BU Studentship. The key criteria are demonstrating your motivation to complete your PhD within three years and showing that you have outstanding qualities.
  • As a minimum, applicant must meet the university’s minimum doctoral entry criteria – an Honours degree at Upper Second Class (2.1) and/or an appropriate Master’s degree. If English is not your first language, you will also need a minimum score of IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent). However, in many cases candidates will be expected to have a First Class (Hons) degree and/or a distinction at Master’s level.

Nationality: UK and international students can apply for this PhD Studentship.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: An Honours degree at 2:1 or higher and/or a relevant Master’s degree. If English is not your first language you’ll need IELTS 6.5 (Academic) or above.

English Language Requirement: An IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 minimum (or equivalent) is essential for candidates for whom English is not their first language.
