Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must receive an offer to study a full-time or part-time Postgraduate Masters program studied in full at the University of Sheffield only before 26 April 2019.
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) courses are ineligible for a merit scholarship.
  • Applicants Masters program must commence at the University of Sheffield in September 2018.
  • Distance learning courses are ineligible for a merit scholarship.
  • Applicants must receive an offer for a course studied in full at the University of Sheffield. Masters programmes split between the University of Sheffield and a partner institution are not eligible to apply for a scholarship.
  • All Crossways courses and Erasmus Mundus courses are ineligible for a merit scholarship.
  • For tuition fee purposes Applicants must be self-funded and eligible to pay the overseas tuition fee.
  • Applicants must not be a sponsored student*.
  • For scholarship purposes all MArch programmes are considered as postgraduate taught programmes and are not eligible for undergraduate financial aid.
  • Anyone studying a Masters/integrated PhD programmes is eligible for a merit award in the Masters element of the programme only.
  • These opportunities are not applicable to any postgraduate courses where the higher clinical fee is applicable, this includes, but is not exclusive to the following courses:

English Language Requirements: These are the qualifications most commonly presented by applicants. However, different courses require different levels of achievement in these qualifications.

  • International English Language Testing Service (IELTS): Overall score of 6.5 or above, with at least 5.5 in each component
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): Overall score of 176 or above, with at least 162 in each component
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Overall score of 176 or above, with at least 162 in each component
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) : Overall score of 61 or above, with at least 51 in each component
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) internet-based test (IBT): Overall score of 88 or above, with at least 17 in Listening, 17 in Writing, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking
  • University of Sheffield English Proficiency Test (USEPT) (graded as a percentage equivalent to IELTS point score, eg 65% = IELTS 6.5): Overall score of 65% or above, with at least 55% in each component
