Neville Shulman Challenge Award in UK, 2014

Applications are invited for Neville Shulman Challenge Award of £8,000 available for undertaking research project to further the understanding and exploration of the planet. The Award is open to individuals or groups. The project can be desk or field based and carried out in the UK or overseas. Lead applicants must be UK nationals. From the proposals, up to four projects will be shortlisted and applicants should expect to be called for interview. Application should be submitted till 2nd May 2014.

Study Subject (s): The Award aims to further the understanding and exploration of the planet: its cultures, peoples and environments, while promoting personal development through the intellectual or physical challenges involved in undertaking the research and/or expedition.

Eligibility:
-Lead applicants must be UK nationals.
-The project can be desk or field based – and carried out in the UK or overseas.
-Project proposals relating to PhD or MSc research will not be accepted.
-The reviewers are looking for those who are committed to the aims of the challenge.
-It is expected that this grant will provide the majority of funding needed to undertake the project.
-The award is for independent travel. They will not consider any journey joining a commercial expedition or pre-paid tour, including organised charity fundraising tours.

Notification: Applications will be assessed by an external panel of experts. From the proposals, up to four projects will be shortlisted and applicants should expect to be called for interview. Interviews will be held at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) in London. Shortlisted candidates must be able to attend the interview in person.
