To support the education of international students in the USA, Musicians Institute has established the Schecter Nick Johnston Guitar Scholarships. The scholarship application is ongoing for the academic year 2022-2023.

The scholarship will be awarded in Fall 2022 to an intermediate or advanced student in the Associate of Arts or Bachelor of Music in Performance (Guitar) program who demonstrates overall outstanding musicianship, their unique creative voice, and passion for the instrument in the Progressive Rock genre.

  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Available to international students and U.S. citizens.
  • May only be applied to the Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Music in Performance (Guitar) Program.
  • Newly enrolling and currently enrolled/or returning students are eligible.

How to Apply

  • How to Apply: Students can submit their admission applications via the university portal. All students that meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship will be considered.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must provide the youtube video URL: YouTube video of you performing three (3) songs in the Progressive Rock genre on the electric or acoustic guitar. It is required that this include two (2) ensemble (live band or duo, or pre-recorded play-along tracks format or looper) performances; and one (1) unaccompanied guitar performance (No play-along tracks will be accepted for the solo piece).
  • Admission Requirements: Awardee must maintain enrollment at 12 units (full-time status) during the entire length of the award period. Failure to maintain enrollment and satisfactory academic progress in the program for the full duration of the scholarship will result in the withdrawal of the award.
  • Language Requirement:  You can generally meet the English Language Proficiency requirements for entry to Musicians Institute.

Benefits

The university will provide an award amount of $5,000.00 for the first two-quarters of the program, $2,500 per quarter.
