Tourism Industry New Zealand Trust and Lincoln University have agreed to jointly offer a Scholarship to pursue Doctoral (PhD) qualification at Lincoln University in the Department of Tourism, Sport and Society. Scholarship is available to International & New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident Students.

The purpose of this scholarship is to support research to provide a theoretically informed understanding of tourism’s social licence to operate in New Zealand.

The Lincoln University is a New Zealand university that was formed in 1990 when Lincoln College, Canterbury was made independent of the University of Canterbury.

Scholarship Description:

Applications Deadline: January 11, 2019
Course Level: Scholarship is available to pursue Doctoral (PhD) qualification at Lincoln University.
Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded to study Doctoral degree in the Department of Tourism, Sport and Society.
Scholarship Award: The value of the scholarship will be $25,500 emolument per year for each of three years, plus the amount equivalent to the New Zealand students’ tuition fees (currently $7300) per annum for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at Lincoln University for the same period. The tuition fee is paid annually by way of a credit to the scholar’s fees account. Limited operational funds are also provided.
Nationality: International & New Zealand Citizen.
Number of Scholarships: One scholarship will be offered.

Eligibility for the Scholarship:

Eligible Countries: Scholarship is available to International & New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident Students.
Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• This scholarship will be open to applicants who have gained entrance into the full-time programme of a Doctor of Philosophy at Lincoln University.
• The topic lends itself to graduates of the social sciences (sociology, psychology, anthropology, human geography) noting applications from other cognate disciplines, or interdisciplinary fields (e.g. tourism) will also receive consideration.
• Applicants need to demonstrate significant and sustained academic performance which, for the purposes of this scholarship, is defined as achieving an A- / GPA 7 or better in previous degrees, dissertation or thesis.
• Applicants may be New Zealand Citizens, Permanent Residents or International students. In the event of a tied decision preference will be given to a New Zealand Citizen / Resident.
English Language Requirements: Students whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English by submitting satisfactory scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
