University of California Online Course on Human-Computer Interaction

University of California, San Diego and Coursera are coming up with an online course on Human-Computer Interaction. In this course, students will learn to develop human-centered design skills so that they can create excellent interfaces in any technology using principles and methods.

Students are required to design those technologies that can bring pleasure to people. This course will teach different techniques for rapidly prototyping and evaluating multiple interface alternatives and will also let them know why rapid prototyping and comparative evaluation are essential to excellent interaction design.

Students can also conduct fieldwork with the people that will help them in designing new ideas.

Students will also learn how to make appropriate prototypes and low-fidelity mock-ups that are interactive and how they can use these designs in order to get feedback from other stakeholders like your teammates, clients, and users.

Moreover, students will also learn principles of value design so that they can effectively organize and present information with their interfaces. Principles of perception and cognition that inform effective interaction design will also be taught in this course. Finally students will learn to perform and analyze controlled experiments online.

In most of the cases, Web design as the anchoring domain will be used. A lot of example will be taken from web but discussion will be there about Web technologies in particular so that the main goal of the course can be achieved.

Students who successfully complete the class will receive a statement of accomplishment signed by the instructor.
