China Scholarship Council : An Overview

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a non-profit institution affiliated with the Ministry of Education. The key objectives of this Council are as follows:

-Offer financial assistance to outstanding Chinese students to study abroad
-Offer financial assistance to foreign students to study in China
-It also aims to develop educational, Technological, cultural, trade and commerce exchanges between China and other countries globally
-Works at promoting world peace, improve understanding between Chinese and people from other nations and escalate the modernization drive in China
-Drive the exchange program and manage the overall functioning across global institutions

Chinese Scholarship Council and Universities’ Scholarships

University of Auckland & CSC 

The University of Auckland in association with the China Scholarship Council extends its facilities to top ranked Chinese PhD students. Designed to encourage research exchange, students receive a living allowance, return airfare to New Zealand, student visa fees and health insurance.

University Of Oxford Scholarship

The University of Oxford offers its facilities to top ranked Chinese students an opportunity to do their DPhil from the world renowned Oxford University.

The scholarship covers 100 percent of the university and college fees, one return airfare to China and a grant amounting to £13,863 as living expenses.

University Of Edinburgh & China Council 

The University of Edinburgh awards 20 scholarships for PhD study to outstanding Chinese students. The disciplines under which the study can be conducted are Agriculture, Communication and IT, Life Sciences and Public Health, Materials Sciences and New Materials, Energy and Environment, Engineering, Applied Social Science and WTO related areas, Business and Law and Mathematics. While these are the key areas, other fields are also considered. The scholarship covers tuition fees for 20 students, living allowance, health cover, visa application fees and 1 return airfare to China.

CSC and University Of Adelaide 

This scholarship enables Chinese students to pursue a postgraduate research degree at the University of Adelaide. It takes of the complete tuition fees, offers living allowance, visa application fees, overseas student health cover insurance, one return airfare to Australia. Only those willing to major in Doctor of Philosophy can apply and the term is for four years.

Curtin University Scholarship Council 

The scholarship is offered to remarkable Chinese students willing to pursue their post graduate research in fields of Science, Humanities, Health Sciences, Engineering and the Curtin Business School. Curtin University waives complete tuition fees, awards a top up scholarship value at $4400 per annum up to four years, return airfare is provided and living stipend for expenses.

China Scholarship Council & University Of Reading 

The University of Reading offers this scholarship to fund two PhD students keen on pursuing their study in agriculture and food security, climate and environmental change and health and well-being. The complete tuition fees are covered along with an annual living allowance inclusive of student health cover and visa application fees. Additionally, it includes a £1K training and development allowance per annum.

University Of Nottingham & CSC 

This scholarship is offered to 10 selected Chinese nationals who wish to study a full time PhD research degree programme in any subject. Complete tuition fees are paid by the Nottingham University for a period of 3 years study and the living allowance or stipend is affixed as decided by the CSC.

Monash University & Scholarship Council 

The scholarship enables brilliant Chinese students to undertake PhD long term research study. The subjects under the purview are Energy and environment, Life sciences and public health(especially emerging infectious diseases) including biotechnology, Governance and public policy reform, Communication and information technology, Economics and business, Engineering and architecture including urban planning,  Applied social sciences including law and WTO-related areas, Fundamental studies in science and technology, health sciences, the humanities and the arts.

The tuition fees are covered with living allowance provided for three years, including student health cover, visa application fees, and cost of a return international air fare between Australia and China.

CSC and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/E) 

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) facilitates top ranked Chinese students to complete their PhD degrees at TU/e with a 4-year scholarship from the CSC.  It covers tuition fees and living allowances for the 4 year study period.

The University of Bristol China Scholarship Council 

This scholarship entails 10 Chinese students to study PhD programmes up to 4 years in duration. The scholarship includes full tuition fees and research fees of successful candidates. Additionally, living allowance, together with additional expenses like health insurance, visa application fees, return international airfare to the United Kingdom, research costs of up to £1,000 where applicable, over the duration of the programme will also be provided. The areas of study include:

-engineering (aerospace, civil, electrical and electronic, mechanical, computer science)

-natural and physical sciences (animal welfare and behaviour, biological sciences, cancer, cardiovascular science, chemistry, earth, geographical and environmental science, infection and immunity, neuroscience, psychology, mathematics and physics)

-social sciences (poverty and social exclusion, markets and public organization, global insecurity, life styles and wellbeing, education and quantitative methods)

-the arts (archaeology and anthropology, drama, music and philosophy)

Imperial College, London Scholarship 

This scholarship enables 15 students who are selected on an annual basis for starting their PhD thesis. The scholarship includes tuition fees, maintenance fees, up to £1,000 per year to attend conferences and cover other costs and one return fare to China.

CSC and Canada Oriented Programs 

It includes two programs-

(a) Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP)

The focus in on helping Chinese students understand Canada and includes 4-12 months of research period in Canada. While there is no formal enrollment in any Canadian institute, students are encouraged to improve their knowledge and understanding on subjects related to public policy analysis and public administration, business management, economics/finance/banking etc. 

(b) Norman Bethune Health Research Scholarship Program

Under this scholarship, 30 Chinese students are selected to pursue doctoral studies at leading Canadian universities or their affiliates. The area of focus is health research and is for tenure of 4 to 5 years. The minimum support is 17,850$ per year.

Asian Institute of Technology China Scholarship 

The Institute offers 10 annual scholarships towards tuition fee, registration fee, living stipend (health insurance included) and a return international airfare to China and visa application fees. A student can pursue his or her studies in any one of the following disciplines like Engineering, Technology, and Management.

Cornell University and China Scholarship Council 

This scholarship is offered by Cornell’s China and Asia Pacific Studies Program. Three of its stellar students across undergraduate, graduates, faculty who wish to pursue Chinese language instruction or study in other fields as a general scholar or a senior scholar for up to one academic year are eligible to apply for Chinese Government Scholarship. The scholarship comprises of a waiver of fee for registration, tuition, laboratory experiment, internship, and basic textbooks; free on-campus dormitory accommodation; monthly living allowance; one-off settlement subsidy; outpatient medical service and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China; one-off inter-city travel subsidy.
