The United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) offers a Visiting Ph.D. Fellowship Programme for registered doctoral students. The program allows fellows to utilize UNU-WIDER resources and facilities for their Ph.D. dissertation or thesis research on developing economies and to work with UNU-WIDER researchers in mutual interest.

The program typically lasts for three consecutive months, during which fellows prepare one or more research papers and present a seminar on their research findings. Fellows may also have the opportunity to publish their research in the UNU-WIDER Working Paper Series.

The 2022 program will aim to be in person but may move online or hybrid depending on the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligibility

The Visiting Ph.D. Fellowship Programme allows registered doctoral students to utilize the resources and facilities at UNU-WIDER for their Ph.D. dissertation or thesis research on developing economies and to work with UNU-WIDER researchers in mutual interest.

Visiting Ph.D. fellows typically spend three consecutive months at UNU-WIDER before returning to their home institution. How to Apply

You must complete an application form to apply for this program. You will be asked to upload your curriculum vitae as your application. Your Ph.D. supervisor will also need to provide UNU-WIDER with a letter of reference, which should be emailed (by your supervisor) to the following address: [email protected]. The reference letter will be used to verify that you are enrolled in a Ph.D. program at your university.

Selected applicants will be informed of the final decision by email within four weeks of the closing deadline. Applicants selected for the program must confirm their decision to participate within two weeks of being contacted by UNU-WIDER.
