The University of Pretoria invites applications from excellent doctoral graduates to apply for the Vice-Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowships at the University.

The aim of the fellowship is to develop their research skills and academic careers through participation in the University’s areas of research strength and strategic priorities.

The University of Pretoria is a multi-campus public research university in Pretoria, the capital of South Africa. The University of Pretoria offers more than 1 800 academic programmes in two of the official languages, namely Afrikaans and English.

Course Level: These fellowships are available to pursue postdoctoral programme.

Study Subject: These fellowships are awarded in biological sciences, data sciences, economics and business sciences, energy, engineering, food security, genomics, health sciences, humanities and social sciences, and sustainable development.

Scholarship Award:  Awards are made annually on a competitive basis. The expectation is that fellows will be active and productive researchers, and develop academically, under the mentorship of experienced academic staff.

How to Apply: Applicants can apply via email.

  • Applications should be submitted using the application form. Applications should be accompanied by a comprehensive curriculum vitae and applicants should submit a letter of motivation (2 pages) describing their research achievements and expertise, and their objectives related to the postdoctoral fellowship. By reference to the University of Pretoria website, candidates should identify the research programme in which they wish to be appointed. Applications should be supported by two letters of reference that can attest to the candidate’s academic and research interests (e.g. the candidate’s doctoral supervisor), and the suitability of his/her research experience with respect to the field selected for postdoctoral research.
