Eligibility

Scholarships are awarded to foreign researchers domiciled abroad.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

For a Ph.D. student:

  1. Minimum inscription of two semesters at a foreign university recognized by the University of Fribourg at the doctoral level (not being registered at the University of Fribourg)
  2. Foreign residence
  3. Being younger than 35 upon arrival at the University of Fribourg
  4. Being engaged in a research project at the University of Fribourg
  5. Having submitted a complete file

For Post-Docs:

  1. Holding a Doctor’s title that was completed within the last three years at a foreign university recognized by the University of Fribourg
  2. Foreign residence
  3. Being employed or involved in research at a foreign research center of a foreign university
  4. Having submitted a complete file

How to Apply

  • How to Apply: The completed application files have to be sent to the following address: University of Fribourg, International Relations Office, Avenue de l’ Europe 20, 1700 Fribourg – Switzerland and international-scholarship-at-unifr.ch. Apply online (www.unifr.ch/international/en/in/bourse). The application files have to be sent in two formats (original by mail and copy by email/Zip format).
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants provide complete application-form with digital ID picture, Curriculum vitae/Resume, description of the research project at the University of Fribourg, description of the necessity of a scholarship for the implementation of the research project, a confirmation letter, Grade report of the Bachelor and Master studies (transcript), Confirmation of residence, Copy of passport.
  • Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

Benefit: The duration for Ph.D. students is 4 months. The financial support amounts to CHF 1900 / month. For holders of a Doctor’s title, it can be between 1 and 3 months. The financial support is CHF 2700 / month.
