To encourage and promote cooperation in science, technology, and innovation, including through joint research activity, the ASEAN-India Science & Technology Collaboration has organized ASEAN-India Research Training Fellowship (AI-RTF) for the academic year 2022-2023.

The fellowship will be awarded for a duration of two to six months. Young scientists and researchers from the ASEAN-Member States can participate to get affiliated with Indian academic and R&D institutions. The students awarded will be given full coverage starting from airfare, allowance, research contingency expenses, airport transfers, domestic travel for attending scientific /events and field trips, institutional overhead, etc.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India is the government agency responsible for implementing Indian foreign policy. The Department of Science and Technology has come to be regarded as one of the most powerful instruments of growth and development, especially in the emerging scenario and competitive economy.

The ASEAN-India Science & Technology Collaboration formally started in 1996 with the establishment of the ASEAN India S&T working group (AIWGST). It supports and implements several projects and scientific activities such as a thematic workshop/ technology mission (technology mission on functional food, renewable energy, marine biotechnology, and ASEAN food conference), a Training program on Quality systems in Manufacturing, etc.

• Eligible Course or Subjects: Students can undertake research studies in Agricultural Sciences, Biological, and Medical Sciences, Chemical Sciences & Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Physical Sciences and Mathematics, Ocean, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Materials, Minerals, and Metallurgy, Science Policy / IPR Management / Technology Transfer & Commercialisation, and other multi-disciplinary areas of Science, Technology, and Innovation in alignment with APASTI at any Indian research/ academic Institution.
• Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
• The applicants must hold the nationality of any of the ASEAN Member states.

• Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:

• Copy of relevant pages of valid Passport
• A copy of the endorsement letter from the present employer
• A copy of the acceptance letter from any Indian scientist/ institution for hosting the applicant
• Admission Requirements: The applicants must have having at-least a master’s degree in any Natural Sciences or an equivalent degree in Technology / Engineering / Medicine / allied disciplines.
• Language Requirement: The students must have fluency in the English language.

Benefits

The winning fellows will be awarded the following benefits:

• Round trip international airfare by lowest economy class and by the shortest route from the international airport in the home country of the applicant to the international airport nearest to the host institution in India; visa fees, overseas medical insurance, etc.
• A consolidated Fellowship amount of Indian Rupees (INR) 60,000 per month
• A one-time grant of INR 40,000/- as research contingency expenses, airport transfers, domestic travel for attending scientific /events, and field trips within India
• Institutional overhead charges @ Rs. 2,500/- per month
