The British Thyroid Foundation (BTF) wishes to support research and is providing funding to enable medical researchers to supplement existing projects or for pump-priming new research ideas. This year there will be two awards of ?10,000 each. Applications are invited for basic science or clinical projects. Please note: BTF will be seeking to fund one basic science and one clinical project, or two clinical projects each year. The successful project must be specifically directed to the study of thyroid disorders or an investigation into the basic understanding of thyroid function. Funds will not normally exceed ?10,000 and will be awarded for consumables, running costs and necessary items of equipment. Applications for personal computers are not considered. Awards will normally be offered for projects lasting one year. After completion of the project, any equipment purchased with the grant will belong to the institution in which the research was carried out. Support for technical staff costs/salaries will only be considered in well-justified applications.
A panel appointed by the Trustees of the British Thyroid Foundation, in conjunction with the British Thyroid Association and the British Thyroid Foundation, will referee applications. An award may not be made if the panel considers that applications are not of a sufficiently high standard. Applications will be graded on a four-point system as follows: 1. Track record of applicant. 2. Quality of research proposal. 3. Value for money. 4. Outcome likely to be relevant to the aims of the BTF and of a high quality. The awards will be given to the applications that achieve the highest score and are considered to be of a high standard. Feedback on unsuccessful applications will not be given.
