Scholarship Description:

  • Application Deadline: March 31, 2018
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available to the doctoral degree programme.
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded in the field of Accounting, Reporting, and Taxation.
  • Scholarship Award: DART is funded by the Austrian Science Fund (www.fwf.ac.at). In accordance with the Austrian Science Fund’s guidelines for doctoral programs, DART scholarship holders are paid a salary for a period of 3-4 years. The annual salary after taxes and social security contributions amounts to approximately 20,000 Euros. Given the costs for living and housing in Graz or Vienna, this salary enables the scholarship holders to concentrate on their studies.
  • Scholarships will be granted for a three-year period. For scholarship holders who spend a research period of at least six months at a qualified university outside of Austria, this period can be extended to up to four years.
  • PhD students who already have to fund from other sources (e.g. universities and specific projects) can also apply for DART membership as associated doctoral students. They are subject to the same application procedures and qualification criteria as students with scholarships. Associated doctoral students are fully integrated into the DART curriculum.
  • The respective universities provide the doctoral students with sufficient office space on campus. Offices are equipped with the usual furniture (particularly desks, chairs) and standard personal computers with access to the universities’ IT infrastructures. The universities provide rooms for meetings and workshops for the DART doctoral program.

Admission procedure

Complete applications which meet all formal admission requirements will be evaluated by the admission committee. Based on this evaluation the best applicants will be selected and will be invited for an interview.

Based on all available evidence the admission committee will determine a final ranking of applications. The applicants at the top of the ranking list will be given an admission offer, in form of a written notice of the applicant’s acceptance into the program. To claim his/her place in the program, the applicant must confirm the admission offer in writing within ten days of receipt.

Previous degree

A formal requirement is an acceptance for the doctoral studies in social and economic sciences at the respective university (the University of Graz or University of Vienna). The previous degree prerequisite is an outstanding (top 10%) Diploma or a Master’s degree (to be completed before beginning studies in the DART program). If you have not finished your university degree as of yet but will have completed it by the beginning of the DART program, please enclose an official preliminary grade report in your application and indicate your estimated date of graduation.

We do not accept applications from students who hold only a Bachelor’s degree.

Fields of previous studies:

An undergraduate specialization in accounting, finance or economics is strongly recommended. Beyond a rigorous undergraduate education emphasizing analytical and quantitative skills as well as clarity of thought and expression, a strong interest in accounting issues is essential for success in the DART Ph.D. program. An adequate mathematical preparation is very important.

English Language and Test Requirements: GRE/GMAT

Applicants are required to take the quantitative section of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) aptitude test or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
