British Council and FutureLearn have teamed up to create an interactive online course, ‘Exploring English: Shakespeare’ like no other. This 6-week English language course is aimed at non-native English speakers at around intermediate level (approximately B1 on the CEFR) or above.

Over six weeks, the course focuses on improving applicants English language skills by looking at the life and works of William Shakespeare and his enduring popularity.

About This Course

This free online course will look at the life and works of William Shakespeare and take applicants from his birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon to the Globe Theatre in London, from where he secured his central place in English literature.

Council will look at five of Shakespeare’s plays with the help of actors and experts from around the world. They will explain and explore the universal themes Shakespeare addressed in his work.

A Statement of Participation is a printed certificate available to purchase that shows you have taken part in a course on FutureLearn. Future Learn’s video tutor will guide its applicants through the course and look at some of the words and expressions that Shakespeare introduced to the English language. Short quizzes will check their understanding and they’ll be asked to share their ideas and opinions on the topics Shakespeare raises.
