Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, India, Pakistan
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for any one-year taught Master’s (MA, MSc, or LLM) degree offered at the University of Essex
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Applicants must hold a passport from an eligible country (Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, India, and Pakistan)
  • Applicants must be classed as overseas fee payers and entirely self-funded.
  • Students receiving a repayable loan to fund their studies will be considered self-funded.

  • How to Apply: To apply for the GREAT Scholarship, applicants must download & complete the application form and submit it to [email protected] using ‘GREAT Scholarships – [name of country] application’ in the subject line.
  • In the application form, applicants must provide the following details:
  • Essex Application ID (if you’re a Postgraduate Student)
  • Course or program of study you’ve been accepted for
  • Name
  • Email address
  • Nationality
  • Country of residence
  • A current or most recent educational institution
  • Details of any other funding they are due to receive
  • Copy of your passport
  • Application questions: There are three questions that applicants will need to complete (each question is 200 words).
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must submit all the following documents for admission:

  • Proof of English language proficiency

  • Admission Requirements: Full details of entry requirements, including English language requirements, are on country pages or course listings. The normal criteria for admission to the chosen University of Essex Master’s degree, a GREAT Scholar must be:
  • Active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the proposed subject area
  • Able to demonstrate their motivation and academically be able to follow and benefit from an Essex postgraduate taught course
  • Willing to embody the UK Higher Education experience by attending lectures and tutorials and engaging with extra-curricular activities, and act as an ambassador for UK Higher Education by promoting the value of studying at a UK HEI
  • Willing to act as a spokesperson in the relevant subject space
  • Willing to establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar through personal and academic fulfillment

  • Willing to demonstrate future contribution to capacity-building and socioeconomic advancement in the climate change space through the benefits achieved after graduating from UK higher education
  • As an alumnus of the UK, be willing occasionally to speak to potential candidates about their own experience of studying in the UK.
  • Language Requirement: The main tests Essex accepts are IELTS, TOEFL, or Pearson, and the test must be less than three years old at the time of admission. Applicants can also see more detailed information about English language requirements here.

Benefits

  • There are five scholarships available for the 2023/24 academic year. Only one £10,000 scholarship award can be made per student from Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, India, and Pakistan.
  • The award must be used towards tuition fees for any one-year taught Master’s degree offered at the University of Essex.
