The Governing Body of Downing College, Cambridge, is delighted to offer two Research Fellowships i.e. Kim and Julianna Silverman and Mays-Wild Research Fellowship for a period of 3 years from April 1st, 2019 at the earliest with renewal possible for a further 2 years.

The competition is open to existing post-doctoral engineers and scientists who are able to demonstrate outstanding intellectual ability and a programme of activity with the potential to improve over time the lives of others.

Scholarship Description

  • Applications Deadline: December 7, 2018
  • Course Level: Fellowships are available to pursue research.
  • Study Subject: The successful candidate will have a background that encompasses and sometimes transcends traditional academic disciplines including, but not limited to, the following general research areas: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics, Physical Geography, Physics, and Synthetic Biology.
  • Scholarship Award: The Fellowship will be supported by a research costs fund of up to £10,000 p.a.
  • Nationality: Fellowship is available for International students.
  • Number of Scholarships: Two research fellowships are available.
  • Scholarship can be taken in the UK

Kim and Julianna Silverman Research Fellowship 2019

The competition is open to existing postdoctoral engineers and scientists who are able to demonstrate outstanding intellectual ability and a programme of activity with the potential to improve over time the lives of others.

Mays-Wild Research Fellowship 2019

This Fellowship is open to graduates in any area of Physical Natural Sciences from any University and is for 3 years from October 2019.  It is intended to support the early careers of exceptionally talented researchers who will go on to make significant contributions in any field of the Physical Natural Sciences including, but not limited to, Astronomy, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry and Earth Sciences.

English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

Application Procedure

How to Apply: Applications require a research proposal in addition to the applicant’s CV, research output to date and must be accompanied by three references that comment on your research output and potential. Full application details are provided in the further particulars. Interviews for the Kim and Julianna Silverman Research Fellowship and for the May-Wild Fellowship will be held in February 2019. Anyone interested in applying for one of these Fellowships should note that the standard needed to progress to the later stages of the competition is high.
