The University of South Australia has established the MF & MH Joyner Higher Degree by Research Scholarships for the academic year 2022-2023.

The scholarship includes a living allowance stipend of $30,000 per annum for the selected candidates. Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants will be eligible to receive an increased stipend rate of $45,076 per annum and a fee offset or waiver for the standard term of the program.  The applicants must hold relevant and appropriate academic qualifications (e.g., Honours with Distinction in Visual Art) to be considered.

This project will provide a context for Contemporary Art higher degree candidates to pursue research topics and questions of their determination, with the intention that the research will contribute to the advancement of understanding and practice in the visual arts. Projects focusing on experimental art practices, or new paradigms for how visual art may be practiced or engaged, are especially welcome.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: Australia.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: The applicants can undertake any PhD or Master by Research of choice in the 2D, 3D, and 4D areas taught at the University of South Australia.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • The applicants can be Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents of Australia, including permanent humanitarian visa holders.
  • The applicants must submit a portfolio of creative works with evidence of an associated record of visual arts exhibitions at recognized venues.
  • The applicants must provide examples of critical writing on visual art theory and practice.
