Scholarship Description: The Centre for Gender Studies features well-developed research activities based on feminist theory and methodology. Researchers at the Centre are prominent in further developing and problematising the understanding of gender and gender relations. They have a long tradition of weaving together post-colonial and queer theory within the framework of what is today conceptualised as intersectionality. The Department is interdisciplinary and research at the Centre covers a broad area including queer history, performance, development and critical race studies, technology and science studies, studies of inequality and social change.

The doctoral studentship is part of a larger project financed by the Swedish Research Council (VR) lead by Prof Diana Mulinari, Imagining Change: Women and the making of civil societies in the Artic region, Asia, Latin America and Europe. The project is part of VR?s framework of researching the civil society. The aim of the project is to explore the varied forms of social injustice women all over the world work against. Another aim is to research women?s organizing within the framework of the civil society as well as the shifting understandings given to feminism as ideology in a global, national and local context.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements

A person has basic eligibility for third-cycle (research) studies if he or she has taken a second-cycle qualification,has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 second-cycle credits, or has acquired essentially corresponding knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.

The special eligibility requirements for admission to the third-cycle program in Gender Studies are 30 second-cycle credits in Gender Studies, of which 15 credits must consist of a second-cycle degree project (Master?s thesis) or an equivalent qualification, obtained in Sweden or abroad.

A person who fulfilled the requirements for basic eligibility for admission to third-cycle studies before 1st July 2007 will also be considered to have basic eligibility for admission to third-cycle studies after that date, though until no later than the end of June 2015.
