The “Programme d’études en France” (PEF) is a new program offered as part of a cooperation between the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs via the French Embassy in Berlin and the DAAD.

The program is intended to support a one-semester study visit for bachelor students as part of an integrated study program in Linguistics and cultural studies at one of the French partner universities.

Eligibility

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for undergraduate courses in Romance studies, France-related intercultural and European studies, linguistics
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Undergraduate students in bachelor’s courses in the fields of Romance studies, intercultural (France-related) and European studies, linguistics with French as the first foreign language (e.g. foreign language linguistics), and, depending on the chosen major, law or economics can apply.
  • Applicants must be enrolled at a state-recognized university in Germany and be in the second semester or the second half of the first year of their bachelor’s degree at the time of application.

How to Apply

  • How to Apply: Applicants must complete the application process step by step:
  • Register in the DAAD portal
  • Apply online in the DAAD portal
  • Request references in the DAAD portal (if necessary, see the “Application documents” section on the “Application procedure” tab)
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must submit all the following documents to be submitted by post to the DAAD, Kennedyallee 50, 53175 Bonn:
  • Complete tabular curriculum vitae (in German and French)
  • Presentation of the professional and personal motives for the planned project (letter of motivation) in German and French, including a study plan.
  • At least one reference from a university teacher for the seminars or exercises attended in the 1st semester (DAAD model)
  • Certificate of university entrance qualification (Abitur) with individual grades
  • List of all exercise and seminar events attended so far (transcript of records, including credit points and grades according to ECTS, if available)
  • Proof of language proficiency can only be waived in very specific exceptional cases, in particular by proving a French Abitur (baccalauréat) as part of a German-French grammar school, an AbiBac, etc.
  • Enrollment certificate for the current semester
  • Immediately after receipt and by the end of August at the latest, the certificates of the second Bachelor’s semester with individual grades must be submitted later without being asked.
  • Other documents that you consider important for your application (e.g. proof of internships, job references…
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must be able to follow classes in French and participate in study groups. Applicants must also be able to write papers and give oral presentations in French.
  • Language Requirement: The required language skills should correspond to level B2 and must be proven. The language certificate must not be older than 1 year. The following language certificates are accepted:
  • The DAAD language certificate form or another language certificate recognized by the DAAD, especially DELF, and TCF.
  • The DAAD language certificate form must be issued by the respective (foreign) lecturer or by an authorized examiner at the language centre or department for the respective foreign language.
