Eligibility: The program does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation, or disability. The competition is merit-based and open to applicants who:
-hold an undergraduate degree at the time of the application deadline with an excellent academic record;
-are legal residents of and currently living in their home country;
-have experience working in at least one of the fields listed above in home country;
-are proficient in English;
-are committed to returning to their home country after completion of the program to continue work and impart knowledge gained during their studies.

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: The students of Afghanistan and Nepal can apply for this scholarship.

Scholarship Description: The South Asia Scholarship Program provides opportunities and scholarships for high quality post-graduate study for individuals from Afghanistan and Nepal. Applicants should demonstrate both academic and professional excellence and the potential to become leaders in the fields of human rights and sustainable development. These awards provide opportunities for outstanding individuals who have the potential to become leading practitioners in rights-based fields. The program also introduces students from Afghanistan and Nepal to colleagues from across the region and encourages cross-national dialogue among professional communities. The skills and knowledge gained during the program will allow alumni to contribute to the economic and democratic growth of their home country and serve as leaders in their targeted field of specialization.

Number of award(s): Five scholarships are available for LLM (Master of Laws) degrees in the field of human rights at University of Hong Kong. Ten scholarships (up to five per country) are available for the MA in Sustainable Development Practice at TERI University

Duration of award(s): Scholarship fund two-year graduate programs in Sustainable Development Practice.  Scholarship funding may be extended for up to 3 months to cover public sector internships or work placements at non-profit institutions after candidates complete the LL.M. degree.

What does it cover? The Fellowship provides at TERI university:
-Tuition and university fees for up to 2 years, requiring full-time enrollment;
-Monthly stipend for room, board, and living expenses for a single person only;
-Air travel to and from host universities at the start and conclusion of Program;
-One trip home during the Program;
-Accident and sickness insurance during Program;
-Annual allowances for academic materials & professional development;
-Facilitation of all visa and travel arrangements;
-Pre-academic training in academic writing & research methods;
-Participation in annual fellows’ conference.

The Fellowship provides at University of Hong Kong: Funding will be applied towards the cost of tuition, room, board, stipend, textbooks, international transportation, professional enrichment activities, and health insurance.  Funding will also cover travel, meals, and other costs associated with attendance at a one-month OSF-administered pre-academic program summer course in July 2013.  During the application process, funds are available to cover TOEFL-related costs for applicants selected as semi-finalists. For Fellows in programs that exceed one year in length, the amount of funding provided by the South Asia Scholarship Program during the optional internship period will be adjusted according to the fellows salary received.  Opportunities for continued professional development will be available to alumni of the South Asia Scholarship Program.

Selection Criteria: Competition for the South Asia Scholarship Program is open, merit-based, and relies on a combination of an applicant’s suitability towards the program’s objectives and host university admissions criteria.  Selection is made on the basis of academic excellence, professional aptitude, leadership potential in the field of specialization, proven commitment to open society values, long-term commitment to furthering the profession in applicants’ home country, and English language proficiency.

Scholarship Application Deadline: Please note that this program has two deadlines:
January 15, 2013 for TERI University (MA Sustainable Development Practice)
January 31, 2013 for the University of Hong Kong (LLM Program applicants).
