Our team of experts will provide insights into key aspects of these two countries, from their history and culture to their economies and politics. Our goal is to equip participants with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about business opportunities and relationships with these two important regions. Eligibility

The Program in British, Irish and Empire Studies offers fellowships to graduate students researching projects that involve work in any of the program’s areas of interest. Grants of up to $1,000 are available to facilitate research; they may be used for travel to archives and libraries, for procuring digital materials, or for other legitimate research purposes. Students writing master’s reports, theses, or dissertations are particularly encouraged to apply.

How to apply

To apply for a BIES fellowship, email the following materials to  [email protected].

  • A cover sheet with your full name, UT EID, email address, telephone number, title of the project, and amount requested
  • A one-page description of the work proposed including details of how the fellowship money will be spent
  • A one- to two-page CV
  • A brief letter of recommendation from a supporting UT faculty member

Successful applicants will receive their fellowship money after completing the research and providing a brief report of their activities.
