Current collection of scholarships and fellowships is for Tanzanian students who wish to improve and upgrade their education further. Higher education now day has become an essential part for all the students worldwide. This list contains some scholarships for the Tanzanian students. These scholarships are offered at different levels of education starting from the undergraduate to research level degree for vast research opportunities.

BG Tanzania International Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme

Eligible Students:
Applicant must have completed a relevant graduate degree in geoscience, engineering or a related subject area.
Scholarship is available for pursuing master degree level at the Aberdeen University, Heriot Watt University, Imperial College London and Robert Gordon University.
Award Details:
The awards are comprehensive, covering academic tuition fees and related administrative expenses, registration fees, field work costs, living expenses, a return airfare, support with visa applications, and pastoral care while in the UK.

East and South Africa Merit Postgraduate Scholarships in UK

Russell E. Train Fellowships for Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Conservation

Eligible Students: To be eligible for a Train Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria. Please note that eligibility criteria can vary by competition. Please also refer to specific competition guidelines to ensure they are eligible: must be a citizen and legal permanent resident of an eligible country; must have at least two years of conservation-related work or research experience.
Course: Fellowships support individuals for pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree.

Wellcome Trust International Engagement Awards for Research Applicants

Eligible Students: The scheme is open to a range of potential applicants, including scientists and health researchers, NGOs, educators, artists, theatre practitioners, and cultural and community organisations.
Course: Awards are available for undertaking research projects.
Award Details: Awards of up to £30,000 will be awarded.

MMMF Grants for Women of Tanzanians in USA/Canada

Eligible Students: To apply for the scholarship The MMMF awards education grants on a competitive basis to exceptional women from developing countries who have financial need and are committed to working to empower women and children.
Course: Grant is available towards the completion of the degree program in Canada and USA.
Award Details: An MMMF grant covers only a portion of the total costs for an academic year. Therefore, applicants need to access other financial resources. Disclosure of other resources is required.

VLIR-UOS Scholarships for International Master Programmes (ICP), Belgium
Scholarship Provider: VLIR-UOS
Eligible Students: To apply for the scholarship a candidate should be a national and resident of one of the countries of the VLIR-UOS country list for scholarships (not necessarily the same country) at the time of application.
Course: Scholarships are available for pursuing master’s programmes at a Flemish university.
Award Details: Applicants can apply for incremental funding up to a maximum of:€ 150.000 (for 2-year / 4 semesters / 120 credits Master programmes); € 125.000 (for 1,5 / 3 semesters / 90 credits Master programmes); € 100.000 (for 1-year / 2 semesters / 60 credits Master programmes); per year for a five-year period. This funding facility is available for, basically, two general types of expenses: (1) Costs related to building a strategy to gradually strengthen/build the South dimension of the ICP through cooperation with partners in the South (planning costs); (2) Costs related to the operation of the programme aimed at ensuring quality participation by students and teaching/research staff from the South (operational costs).

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars and Artists in Switzerland
Scholarship Provider: Swiss Government, through the Federal Commission
Eligible Students: To apply for the scholarship there are different criteria for research; PhD; and Postdoctoral program.
Course: Scholarships are available for pursuing PhD, postdoctoral and research programs and fine arts scholarships are for the Master program (according to the ECTS credits).
Award Details: -PhD Scholarships and Research scholarships: The scholarship amounts to a monthly payment of 1920 Swiss Francs. Exemption of the tuition fees (except for EPFL), Mandatory Swiss Health insurance paid by the FCS (for non-EU or EFTA grantees only), A lump sum for air fare for non-European grantees only (provided at the end of the scholarship), Special 300 Swiss Francs lodging allowance (paid once at the beginning of the scholarship),1 year half-fare public transportation card and Counseling and various trips, dinners and sigh seeing tours organized for Swiss Government Scholarship holders. Postdoctoral scholarships: The scholarship amounts to a monthly payment of 3500 Swiss Francs Exemption of the tuition fees (except for EPFL).

Canadian Government Doctoral Research Scholarships for Tanzanian Students
Scholarship Provider: Government of Canada
Eligible Students: To apply for the scholarship Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements for the competition closing date, which is the 1 st November 2015.
Course: Scholarships are available for pursuing doctoral studies at Québec University.
Award Details:  The maximum annual value of the doctoral research scholarship for international students is $20 000. During the eligibility period (nine sessions or 36 months), the scholarship holder may receive up to nine payments totaling $60 000. Each payment of up to $6 667 covers a period of four months or one session.

Afya Bora Consortium Fellowships in Global Health Leadership, 2016-2017

Eligible Students: In order to be eligible to apply all applicants must meet be a citizens of US, Kenya, Botswana, Uganda, or Tanzania.
Course: This is a one-year training program in 8 academic health centers, four in Africa and four in the USA. The four pairs are: University of Nairobi and the University of Washington, University of Botswana and the University of Pennsylvania, Makerere University and Johns Hopkins University and Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences and the University of California, San Francisco.
Award Details: There are different benefits for African and USA trainee.

International Master Scholarships and Discounts in Conflictology
Scholarship Provider:
United Nations Institute for Training and Reasearch (UNITAR) and the Open University of Catalunia (UOC)
Eligible Students: In order to be eligible to apply all applicants must Proven ability to implement activities related to peace and conflict management in a conflict or post-conflict context.
Course: Scholarships and discounts are available for pursuing master`s degree programme.
Award Details: Two types of tuition fees discounts exist: the UN Volunteer discount and the Least Developed Countries discount. As of 2014, the discount is of US$2,000, putting the tuition fees at US$9,400. Fees may change depending on the exchange rate. Scholarship recipients will benefit from a 50% discount on the full tuition fees, the equivalent of USD 5,700. Recipients may pay the remaining fees (USD 5,700) in up to three installments.

Korean Government Scholarship for Tanzanian Students in Korea

Eligible Students: Prospective applicant must meet the following qualification criteria; Must be a citizen of the country to which scholarships are offered, which is also applied to his/her parents. Both applicant and his/her parents must not be a holder of Korean citizenship; should be under 25 years of age as of March 1, 2016 (Should be born after March, 1, 1991); Have adequate health, both physically and mentally
Course: Scholarships are available for pursuing an undergraduate degree at higher educational institutions in Korea.
Award Details: Scholarship Benefits include: Airplane ticket or airfare: The grantees will receive an airplane ticket or be paid an economy class airfare of the shortest route between their country and Korea when they come to Korea, and, thereafter, when they leave Korea after the completion of their study. Monthly Stipend: 800,000 won per month; Tuition: The tuition fee up to 5 million won is exempted by the Korean Government, and if any, the tuition fee exceeding 5 million won and the entrance fee for the first semester by the host university.; Settlement Allowance: 200,000 won upon arrival; Repatriation Allowance: 100,000 won upon completion of studies; Korean Language Training Expenses: The full costs up to 1 year (NIIED pays directly to the language training institution); Medical Insurance: The grantees will be provided with health insurance for major accidents and illnesses during their scholarship period.; The grantee who has level 5 or higher in TOPIK will receive 100,000 won per month after being enrolled at a university in his/her higher degree.

African Union Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Awards (AUKNSA)
Scholarship Provider: The Commission of the African Union
Eligible Students: The African Union Scientific Awards will be awarded to African scientists who have remarkable achievements, demonstrated by number of publications, number of research graduate students, applicability of the scientific work to Africa’s challenges, and its patentability.
Course: Prizes are available to scientists for their scientific achievements and valuable discoveries and findings.
Award Details: The value of the AU-TWAS National Young Scientist Award shall be US$ 5,000 (Five thousand US Dollars) jointly conferred by the African Union Commission and TWAS for each scientific sector. The value of the African Union Women Scientists Regional Award shall be US$20,000 (Twenty thousand US Dollars) for each scientific sector, conferred by the African Union Commission. The value of the Continental Scientific Award shall be US$100,000 (One hundred thousand US Dollars) for each scientific sector) conferred by the African Union Commission on the award winners in each sector.

Rothamsted International Fellowship Scheme in UK
Scholarship Provider: Rothamsted Research Limited, UK
Eligible Students: The Candidate must be of doctoral status, with at least two years post-doctoral experience. Candidates without Higher Degrees must have equivalent research experience to be considered eligible for the scheme. Applications will not be considered where the main objective of the visit is research leading to a higher degree for the Candidate.
Course: Fellowship is awarded to mid-career postdoctoral scientists for undertaking research.
Award Details: The fellowship provides funding for: an accommodation and subsistence allowance;one return journey between the home country and Rothamsted; a contribution towards institute/ project research costs.

INSEAD Greendale Foundation Scholarship for Southern and East Africans
Scholarship Provider: The Trustees of the Greendale Foundation
Eligible Students: Candidates must be nationals from Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa (disadvantaged backgrounds), Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia or Zimbabwe (from disadvantaged backgrounds) who have undergone the major part of their education in Southern or East Africa. Preference will be given to those who have worked there prior to INSEAD. The candidate’s financial situation will also be taken into consideration.
Course: Scholarship is available for pursuing master’s degree level.
Award Details: The amount of scholarship is €35,000.

Chevening Scholarships for Tanzanian Students
Scholarship Provider: Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations
Eligible Students: Candidates must be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
Course: The programme provides full or part funding for full-time courses at postgraduate level, normally a one-year Master’s degree at any UK University.
Award Details: The scholarship covers full tuition fees.

INSEAD Deepak and Sunita Gupta Endowed Scholarship for Developing Countries
Scholarship Provider: INSEAD Business School
Eligible Students: Candidates from emerging/developing countries who can demonstrate proven financial need.
Course: Scholarship is available for pursuing master degree program at INSEAD Business School.
Award Details:  Scholarship has a value of Up to €25,000.

African Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship for Sub-Saharan Africans
Scholarship Provider: The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) in collaboration with The Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC)
Eligible Students: Candidates must meet all the eligibility requirements: Be a citizen and resident of sub-Saharan Africa; Be between 22 and 35 years old (at the beginning of the study program)
Course: Scholarship is awarded for pursuing one to two year Master’s level program in public administration, public policy or public finance at a Canadian university.
Award Details: The ALT scholarship includes:Return airfare (at the beginning and at the end of the program); Tuition fees; Monthly living allowances and one time installation allowance; Fixed allowance to cover purchase of books and attend conferences in Canada; Health insurance coverage; Fees for study permit.

Akili Dada Fellowship for Young African Women Leaders
Scholarship Provider: Akili Dada, Kenya
Eligible Students: Candidates must be a young woman between the ages of 23-30; Be from an economically disadvantaged background.
Course: This is a one year fellowship program.
Award Details: Akili Dada fellows will benefit from Access to a series of seminars from experts in the social change field; Site visits to successful social entrepreneurship and social impact organizations; Access to a dynamic network of Akili Dada Mentors; Access to the Akili Dada network of funding partners and social change agents; Access to Akili Dada’s office facilities.

JNCASR-CICS Fellowship Programme for Tanzanians in India
Scholarship Provider: Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR ) Bangalore and the Centre for International Co-operation in Science(CICS) Chennai, India
Eligible Students: Applicant must be a scientist, teacher or a research scholar affiliated to a scientific or academic institution in a developing country in Asia (other than India), Africa, Latin America and Arab region. Applicant (other than Indian) possessing Doctorate or Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree in Engineering/ Medicine and allied disciplines, below 45 years of age affiliated to a scientific or academic institution in a developing country (Other than India).
Course: Fellowships are available to undertake research studies (short-term, participatory research) in India.
Award Details: The Fellowship Applications will be scrutinized during November/December every year by a selection committee. The Fellowship covers return airfare from place of work in their home country to place of work in India, boarding and lodging at the affiliated institution/s, and an adequate allowance in Indian currency to cover incidental expenses. The CICS will facilitate the issuance of visa to the awardees. The awardees are allowed to choose the fellowship period mutually convenient to them and the host institute.

Africa’s Land and Food Masters Fellowship Programme in UK
Scholarship Provider: Royal Agricultural University, UK
Eligible Students: Fellowships are open to Africans from Sub-Saharan Africa who have experience in agriculture, agri-business, food or natural resource management; an interest in land reform; and a desire to make a strategic and sustainable contribution to Africa’s development. In short, tomorrow’s innovators and leaders.
Course: Fellowship is available for pursuing masters programme at Royal Agricultural University.
Scholarship Provider: Royal Agricultural University, UK
Award Details: Scholarships cover tuition fees, board and accommodation, flights to and from the UK, provision for networking and a short industrial placement either in Africa or in the UK. Scholarships also cover incidental costs whilst in the UK and on placement; however, applicants are advised that funding does not include provision for home and family costs. Furthermore, Fellows are expected to return to their own countries following their UK studies to complete their programme and ‘begin to make a difference’.

uOttawa-GLUK Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Health Research

Eligible Students: Applicant must be Demonstrated keen interest in a long-term research career in community or environmental health or health systems research relevant to low- and middle-income country contexts
Course: Fellowship is available for pursuing postdoctoral programme at the Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK), Kenya.
Award Details: Fellow will receive USD $15,000 per annum (award amount is based on a full-time commitment for 12 months and will be prorated accordingly if postdoc terminates before completing 12 months). Also eligible to apply for up to USD $5,000 in research-related funds upon approval of postdoc supervisors. No relocation funding is available.

Foundation Edu Scholarship for Tanzanian Students

Eligible Students: Applicant must be applicant is eligible to apply if as per the requirement of UG-SFAO applicant: Are a Level 100 student; obtained an aggregate of 14 or better at the WASSCE.
Course: Scholarship is available to study all programmes available at University of Ghana.

Eisenhower Fellowships for African Applicants
Scholarship Provider: Eisenhower Fellowships is a private, non-profit, non-partisan organization created in 1953 by a group of prominent American citizens to honor President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Eligible Students: Eisenhower Fellowships seeks a diverse mix of applicants, ages 32-45, from a wide range of professional sectors. EF seeks ascendant leaders who are committed to making the world more peaceful, prosperous and just, and who are committed to a lifelong engagement with EF’s network of 1,400 active leaders around the world. Candidates from other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa will be considered if they have a track record of regional impact and are nominated by a member of the Africa Leadership Steering Committee or a member of the Eisenhower Fellowships’ global network.
Course: This is a seven week fellowship program.
Award Details: The Eisenhower Fellowships is available for individuals who have a demonstrated track record of significant professional and community achievements and who seek to tackle big challenges in the future.

TWAS-NRF Postdoctoral Fellowship for Scientists from Developing Countries in South Africa
Scholarship Provider: National Research Foundation (NRF) and TWAS
Eligible Students: Applicant must be nationals of a developing country (other than South Africa); must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in South Africa or any developed country;
Course: Fellowships are available to scientists for postdoctoral research programme at research institutions in South Africa.
Award Details: NRF will provide travel to and from South Africa, a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency.

ISN Fellowship Program for Developing Countries

Eligible Students: Applicant must at least 30 years of age? (If you are over 40, you may only apply for a short-term fellowship – even so over 45 years, you may not be successful).
Course: Fellowship program provides relevant and contemporary nephrology training to physicians.
Award Details: The total sum of the grant is in alignment with the length of the training and varies according to the anticipated expenses in the host country, as per World Bank data. Grants are intended to cover, or offset, all costs related to the Fellowship, including travel, accommodation and living expenses. The grant is intended to cover expenses of the fellow, not his/her family.
Application Deadline: There are two applications rounds every year. You can either submit your application before May 1st or October 1st.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Danida Fellowship Programme
Scholarship Provider:  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark (MFA)
Eligible Students: Applications can only be submitted by an institution, e.g. a governmental institution, private-sector enterprise or private organization. For the North-driven research projects this implies an institution in Denmark. For South-driven research projects this implies an institution in Ghana, Tanzania, or Nepal. The Main Applicant must be attached to the institution, which will be responsible for the grant, if approved.
Course: Fellowships are available for pursuing research programme.
Award Details: The total budget available for this Call is DKK 135 million (approximately USD 22,6 million). Duration of the grants is up to 5 years, and the grant is up to DKK 10 million.

WAAW Foundation Scholarship for Undergraduate African Women
Scholarship Provider:  WAAW Foundation
Eligible Students: Female students of African origin living in Africa, less than 32 years, have gained Undergraduate admission to a University or College in Africa and studying a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) related degree course. Candidates must demonstrate financial need and excellent academic record. Course: Scholarship is available for pursuing undergraduate degree level at university or college in Africa.
Award Details: Scholarship recipients receive an award of $500 for the 2017 academic year, or the equivalent in their country’s local currency. Prior scholarship recipient may reapply for renewal the following year, with proof of continued excellent academic performance.

Sri Lankan Government Presidential Scholarships for Tanzanian Students
Scholarship Provider: Ministry of Higher Education, Sri Lanka
Eligible Students: Applications are invited from eligible students for the award of undergraduate scholarships offered by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MoHER), Sri Lanka for the academic year 2014/15 and the courses are to commence in January 2017. Since this is a government to government scholarship program, candidates shall apply for this scholarship with the recommendation of the government nominating agency (i.e. Ministry or the government Institution of his/her country).
Course: Scholarships are offered for pursuing undergraduate degree program.
Award Details: A monthly living allowance of LKR 30, 000/- during the study period. It is expected that the scholarship recipient will meet the expenditure for food and accommodation with the monthly allowance of LKR 30,000/- The relevant university/higher educational institute will assist in finding suitable accommodation.

KEMRI-Wellcome Trust -IDeAL PhD Studentships in Kenya
Scholarship Provider: Wellcome Trust
Eligible Students: Applications are invited from East Africans (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia) who have at least an upper second-class Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in biological sciences, nursing, pharmacy, public health, social sciences, economics or at least a bachelors degree medicine.
Course: Studentships are awarded for pursuing PhD programme.
Award Details: The studentships cover registration fees, research costs, travel costs, medical insurance and a monthly stipend.
